Introduction

The Department of Sports Sciences at the University of Zanjan began its activities in the year 1999 (2000 AD) by admitting students at the Associate's degree level in Sports Sciences. Since 2008, it has admitted students at the undergraduate level (full-time) in Sports Sciences with a specialization in Exercise Physiology. In accordance with the Ministry of Science guidelines, from Bahman 2014 (January 2015), it admitted students in 2 undergraduate specializations: Biological Sciences and Humanities Sciences. Since Mehr 2012 (October 2012), approximately 20 students are admitted annually at the Master's level in Exercise Physiology with specializations in Applied Exercise Physiology and Physical Activity and Health (established in 2019), and approximately 10 students in Sports Management with a specialization in Sports Marketing and Communications (established in 2024) at this university. Since 2016, in line with the changes to the Sports Sciences field and the merging of specializations at the undergraduate level, the University of Zanjan has also been keeping pace with these changes at the undergraduate level in Sports Sciences. The department has more than 300 undergraduate and graduate students in Sports Sciences. The department also has two laboratories (animal and human) with specialized facilities and equipment.

Objective of the Department's Establishment: Training coaches, physical education teachers, sports sciences experts, applied exercise physiology researchers, and training managers of sports organizations and sports marketing to help advance the sports of the province and the country.
